This client is the World’s No 1 provider of kaolins for paper supplying over 350 paper mills worldwide.
In summer 2006 the company anounced the decision to build a European distribution centre in Antwerp along with a strategic partner.
Clays from Brazil were shipped to Antwerp and then distributed as solids or converted into solutions to be road, barge and rail tankered throughout Europe. The making down of clays into solutions required chemical addition to pH adjust and stabilise the finished products.
Chem Resist had already worked with the client extensively in the UK and proposed a turnkey Chemical Storage and Distribution project to the Global Projects team which was accepted.
The project included 7 Polypropylene and HDPE Spiral Wound Storage tanks and integral bunds ranging in size from 25 to 100m3, 4 large dosing cabinets complete with pumps, flowmeters and valves and all connecting pipework. The requirement was to design, manufacture, deliver, install and commission the plant in 6 months.
Working closely with the team in Antwerp Chem Resist worked to tight timelines to ensure the tanks were on site and installed before the roof of the new building was complete.
The dosing panels were manufactured by Chem Resist in the UK and were shipped complete to the Antwerp site. Chem Resist installation teams travelled to Belgium to complete the interconnecting pipework to ensure the chemicals were delivered to all points in the solutions production plant.
The Chemicals Storage and Distribution project was completed on time to allow the final plant commissioning.
